We're not sure why it took so long, but we finally have an interior designer as a Housemate, and we couldn't be more happy that it is Gloria Sollecito. Positive, helpful, open, curious and creative, Glo has both been inspired by and inspiring to our community, which is the perfect combination. Here's a bit of her story and how she got started with her design business, Artful Kitchens.
How'd you take the leap from passion to career?
I worked for a cabinet builder and had a lot of ideas that I wanted to implement. I felt like I would have more creative freedom if I did it on my own and could make my own decisions, so I did it as a side-hustle until I was ready to go on my own. I learned everything I could before I took the leap, so it was more of a transition than a total risk. Eventually I had built my own clientele that could keep me busy enough to do my own thing.
What was your Ah Ha moment?
My degree is in fashion, so I worked in retail management and wanted a change. My mother-in-law at the time gave me a stack of interior magazines, which made me realize I was interested enough to go back to school for design.
How has Social House helped with the way you do business?
I'm always getting new ideas that help me in my business, whether it's an app or advice from members, it keeps my process fresh.
What's the most fulfilling part of your week?
Whenever I receive positive feedback for my work. What I do changes people's everyday lives, so making my clients happy is very important to me.
What do you wish more people knew about you?
I'm creative in all aspects, always open to connect, which is the purpose of my art and design.
How do you gauge your success?
Happy clients, referrals and money in the bank.
Any future goals?
Right now my goal is to clearly define my aesthetic, so I can attract the right client to give me creative control. Trust is very important with designing a space, which is why I hope to engage the right clientele - people who appreciate the value of artful design.
