We knew from the moment Sarah walked in the House that she'd be the perfect fit for our community. Upbeat, artistic, curious, enthusiastic, kind, and just so fun to be around, she's brought a ton of creative energy to the House and to the Cottage, where she has set up shop with both her ceramics and vintage clothing businesses. Here's a little bit about her and how she got her start.
How'd you take the leap from passion to career?
As soon as I viewed pottery as a career instead of a hobby I knew I could make it happen. It was something I always had a passion for so as soon as I began making money I was ready to take the leap.
What was your Ah Ha moment?
I recently assisted master pottery workshops in Brooklyn, where I realized that I had the potential to have my own pottery studio. I knew it would be attainable once I saw the confidence in other professionals, who in return encouraged me to pursue my talents.
How has Social House helped with the way you do business?
The location is awesome, there's plenty of built-in networking opportunities and it's always beneficial to be around like-minded people who are involved with the arts.
What's the most fulfilling part of your week?
Whenever I get to ship out my online orders, which is usually on a Monday or Tuesday.
What do you wish more people knew about you?
I went to school for nursing because I had the fear of failing as a ceramist. My other fear was getting stuck in a job that I wasn't entirely passionate about, so I was even more determined to make pottery my full-time job.
How do you gauge your success?
By staying motivated because I have to keep up with the demand of my workshops and clients. I am constantly juggling my two businesses while maintaining personal relationships and my own well-being. It's been a struggle to balance between selling vintage apparel and creating pottery but as long as I'm staying busy I consider myself successful.
Any future goals?
My five year plan is to have my own studio space in California.
